The Place
BLM Plaza (the original and the permanent installation) is located on16th Street NW from K Street to H Street.
This project is a powerful testament to the movement that inspired the name, and stands as a memorial to all Black lives lost to police violence, and a reminder of DCs resilience after that day in June.
For months, the area was open to pedestrian traffic only, and a fence remained around Lafayette Park, where people left signs, which were collected by cultural institutions in DC.

The original paint faded, and was refreshed. The permanent installation was completed thanks to the hard work of many, and was finished in October 2021.
