John Philip Sousa Bridge

The John Philip Sousa Bridge was completed in 1940 and carries Pennsylvania Avenue across the Anacostia River. A bridge has been located on this site since 1804, after being approved for construction by President Washington. Bridges located here were named the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge with the last bridge being built in 1890 before being replaced by the current Sousa Bridge.
